Ibukun Emiola is a journalist with over a decade of professional experience in community and development reporting. She holds both a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Linguistics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, providing a solid academic foundation in communication, research, and public engagement. She has further strengthened her journalism practice through extensive professional training in investigative reporting, solutions journalism, fact-checking, election reporting, health reporting, reporting on climate change in Africa, and combating disinformation and misinformation. These trainings were delivered by leading institutions including Nigerian Health Watch, Code for Africa; the School of Media and Communications, Pan-Atlantic University; Impact House; Centre for Development Education; International Press Centre (IPC) Nigeria; International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR); Thomson Reuters Foundation (TRF); Centre for Sustainability; Lagos Business School in partnership with Nestle; International Centre for Investigative reporting; and Dialogue Earth.
Emiola began her career in 2013 with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) before joining the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in 2017, where she currently serves as a Principal Correspondent reporting on public health, agriculture, education, science and technology, gender, and social development. She is a Fellow of the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) and a finalist in the Radio Category of the Save the Children Media Awards 2025 as an Editor for an investigative story on Period Poverty in Oyo State, written by Femi Ojo of Splash FM Ibadan. She is also a Fellow of ERAI and a Fellow of Platform Accountability of Centre for Journalism, Innovation and Development (CJID). She holds professional memberships with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
